AWS re:Invent 2018 Recap

Maturing services, increasing demand and expanding partner networks
solidify AWS market leadership for cloud services

December 19, 2018 – The Amazon Web Services (AWS) 2018 re:Invent Conference had a record 53,000 attendees in Las Vegas this year, clear evidence of the accelerating wave of companies migrating to the cloud. What began in 2012 with only 2,000 attendees has become the most important global event for learning about cloud adoption and how to leverage expanding AWS services.

The Five Talent team spent the week at re:Invent connecting with key AWS leaders, strengthening partner relationships, and gaining even stronger alignment with AWS marketing and sales efforts for the coming year. One of team’s top takeaways was that the maturity of AWS services and their impressive performance in areas like security have convinced larger companies of the urgency to move to the cloud.

“There was definitely a shift this year in terms of how companies view AWS and cloud migration,” said Ryan Comingdeer, Five Talent CTO. “It’s obvious they’re well beyond early adoption and first movers. Large organizations now understand they need to migrate in order to innovate and stay competitive. That’s great news for AWS. It also means they’re getting flooded with demand for their services.”

In response, AWS has been rapidly building out its Advanced Partner Network (APN) to help companies with Well-Architected reviews, remediation, and services implementation. As an Advanced Consulting Partner, Five Talent is supporting clients with its deep development expertise with AWS solutions.

Comingdeer also noted that AWS is doing more to help partners manage their IoT infrastructure, particularly with a new catalogue of common frameworks and devices. “These tools free us up to focus on meeting business requirements rather than building new infrastructure for every project,” he said.

AWS unveiled other new services at the conference ranging from a suite of machine learning tools (AWS Inferentia, Amazon SageMaker Ground Truth, and a new Machine Learning category of products offered by AWS Marketplace) to more mundane solutions such as OCR Textract, a natively integrated service that automatically extracts text and data from scanned documents.

As AWS advances and expands its cloud solutions, it is evident that the market for cloud architects and support for cloud migration is as strong as it has ever been.

“Five Talent is tightly aligned with where the market is going with cloud adoption,” said Jon Ruggles, Director of Client Strategies. “AWS is a recognized market leader with synergies we’ll be leveraging in 2019 to add value to our clients and prospects alike.”
